Firstly, What is Grounding?

Grounding is taking a moment to center, and re-collect your energy and re-establish a connection with the earth. Taking a deep breath and finding that sweet spot of quiet and calm.

For many people, any contact with nature (ocean, forest, mountains) helps to bring a grounded state of mind, However its easy for us to be disconnected in our every day to day lives of paved roads and 9am-5pm jobs with kids and sports practice and away games. (just for example)

Having a space that is yours in your home will help you ground when getting back to nature is not the most available option. Having Candles, Plants, Crystals or Anything else around that resonates with you, will help in grounding.

Sometimes you don’t need to go through a big ordeal to ground; once you’re well grounded you can employ a lot of quick and easy techniques ( that's another day)

Centering is when you reinforce your connection to yourself. It’s bringing your energy into focus to help you feel more balanced.

Grounding and centering are usually done together. They are a fundamental step with spiritual practice, done during ritual work and are an essential part of preparation for Healing, magical workings or tapping into psychic abilities.

Not doing metaphysical stuff ?

No Problem!

Grounding and centering is something that you can do every day, any time you feel the need to do them.

Learning to ground and center can really help you ‘get a grip’ on any moment, and bring you back to a place of balance and peace. This helps put you in your optimum frame of mind for whatever it is you're doing.

Grounding is also a way people have to help deal with any mental health issues they maybe facing, Anxiety, Depression, or to help ease overwhelming feelings.

Well that's Great, but how do you do it right?

Walk outside in the dirt and grass with bare feet. Really! connect to the earth and just let it flow.

However, when that is not possible:

A quick and easy grounding trick that I have always used was to do a visualization of a Tree.

You can start by sitting with your feet planted on the ground, or sit with your legs crossed.

I have done this while sitting at work or even in my car. Just get comfy!

Imagine you self with your back against a tree, any tree that you think will be fine, Just let it come to you. (We can discuss the type of trees and their meanings later in other posts )

Once you have your tree, simply imagine that you and the tree are now connected through this white light going down from the top of the tree,to your crown chakra and down your spine connecting at each chakra point then to the trees roots and out the ground.

Breath in 3's.

The first 3 breaths. Imagine all the benefits of the earth, the water underground, the soils nutrients and earth energy coming up to you with each breath in through your spine and out your crown, up the branches of the tree and out the leaves when you breath out and exhale.

For the next 3 Breaths, Imagine all the air, oxygen sun or moon light, rain and energy of the universe and breath it in through the leaves, down the branches and down through your spine out your root chakra down the Tree's roots as you exhale.

Do this as many times as needed.

Not all grounding techniques work for everyone, Find what works for you.

Think of the beach, The Ocean or even The Rocky Mountains.

Happy Grounding!!
